Let's find values that add to 4 and multiply to negative 45

Note that the product is negative, so one, but only one, of the values must be negative

We'll try options for values that have a product of negative 45, and see what their sum is. A sum of 44 means these are not our values

15 and negative 3 has a sum of 12, so that's not correct

But 9 and negative 5 has the right sum so these are our values.

This math skill teaches how to find two numbers that add up to a specific sum and simultaneously multiply to a specific product. The solution requires considering that one of the numbers must be negative if the product is negative, and iteratively testing pairs of factors until both conditions are met.
