Side of a rectangle from its area and side ratio
This math skill teaches how to determine the dimensions of a rectangle when given its area and a relationship between the width and height. Specifically, it addresses solving for the rectangle's height and width when the width is twice the height.
🎙️
The rectangle has an area of 18, so let's find the width and height
🎙️
It will be simpler to work with a width of twice the height, instead of a height that is half the width, and we can see that this is the exact same thing
🎙️
Area is width times height, and let's use a width of two times height, since we know that's what width is equal to.
🎙️
Simplifying a bit, we divide both sides by 2 and multiply the heights together to get height squared
🎙️
So if our height squared is 9, the height must be 3
🎙️
Which means our width is twice that, or 6
