Let's divide 35 by 5

Dividing is like having the large group of 35 and splitting it into 5 groups, to count how many are in each group

Let's split them one at a time. The first 5 we put into groups gives us 1 in each group.

5 more and we have 2 in each group

Another 5, and now each group has 3

The pattern is like skip counting. We've now moved 20 and we have 4 in each group.

At 25 we have 5 in each group

With 30, each group has 6

And with all 35 divided, each group has 7, so our answer to 35 divided by 5, is 7

This skill introduces the concept of division as dividing a large group into smaller equal groups and distributing the items equally among these groups, ultimately counting how many items each group ends up with.
