Division with a remainder, concept intro
This math skill introduces how to perform division with a remainder. It demonstrates finding how many times a divisor can fit into a dividend and calculating the leftover amount that doesn't fit evenly into the divisor.
🎙️
Let's divide 14 by 4 to find the quotient and the remainder
🎙️
We can see how many 4s will fit into 14 by finding the biggest multiple of 4 that will fit into 14
🎙️
4 times 2 is 8, so that fits comfortably into 14
🎙️
4 times 3 is 12, so we're getting close. Let's try one more
🎙️
No, 4 times 4 is 16, so that's too large as it's bigger than 14
🎙️
If we can take 3 groups of 4, which is 12, out of 14, how many are left. We can subtract to find that there are 2 left that won't evenly fit into our 4 groups.
🎙️
So our answer is 3 groups of 4, and 2 left over. Or, we say that as 3, remainder 2.
