Let's look at the fractional part first. Our sum has 3 sevenths, and we're adding 1 seventh, so we know that we need to start with 2 sevenths.

Now, since there was no carry in the addition of the fractions, we know that our whole needs to be a 2

So 2 and 2 sevenths, plus 1 seventh, gives a sum of 2 and 3 sevenths
