We can think of multiplication as being groups of items, so here we have 3 groups

And each group has 5 items in it.

Let's visualize what that looks like. 3 times 5 is 3 groups, each with 5 purple triangles

If we count them, we have 5, then 10, then 15

So 3 times 5 is equal to 15
