How can we best remember the order of operations in mathematics

First let's quickly review what order we would tackle solving this expression. Our order is brackets, exponents, division, multiplication, addition, subtraction.

The first of these we have in this expression is brackets, so we'd solve those first, simplifying 3 plus 2 to 5

Then, we'd raise 5 to our exponent, as exponents are next in the order

Division and multiplication are the same priority, so we do them left to right. We only have one of them here so we'd divide 9 by 3

Likewise, addition and subtraction are the same priority, and with only one of them in this expression, we'd do that next.

To remember this order, we can use the acronym bedmas to represent brackets, exponents, division or multiplication, and then addition or subtraction.
