Let's remove, or subtract, the number of shapes in the second group from the first group

We have 6 in the first group and 4 in the second group

So our subtraction expression would be 6 minus 4

Subtracting is the same as removing, so let's remove one from the first group for every one we have in the second group

We are left with 2, so 6 minus 4 equals 2
