To add or subtract radicals we first need to simplify to see if we have common radicals to work with.

Root 12 simplifies to 2 root 3. Root 27 simplifies to 3 root 3. So we are dealing with a common radical of root 3

Now we can add or subtract them like any other equation. 2 root 3, plus 3 root 3, is equal to 5 root 3.
