Let's approximate the square of 2.3.

2.3 is between 2 and 3, but slightly lower than the middle. 2 squared is 4 and 3 squared is 9

So our answer will be between 4 and 9 but on the lower end. Let's approximate 5.5

The correct answer is 5.29, so our approximation was pretty good
