Find the mean, median, mode, and range of a group of numbers
This math skill teaches how to calculate the mean, median, mode, and range of a set of numbers. It explains the processes of finding average, middle value, most frequent value, and difference between highest and lowest values in a dataset.
🎙️
Let's find the mean, median, mode, and range of the number of shapes in these groups
🎙️
The mean, or average, is the number in each group if you divide them up evenly
🎙️
We have 12 in total and 4 groups to divide them amongst
🎙️
So our mean is 3
🎙️
The median is the middle number if the numbers are arranged in order
🎙️
We have 1, 2, 2, and 7. Since there's no middle number we go half way in between the two closest to the middle.
🎙️
They are both 2, so our median is 2.
🎙️
The mode is the number that occurs most frequently
🎙️
We have two with 2
🎙️
So our mode is 2
🎙️
And the range is the difference between top and bottom
🎙️
That's 1 and 7 in our case
🎙️
So our range is 7 minus 1, which is 6.
