Base length of a triangular prism

Base length of a triangular prism from volume, height and depth

This math skill teaches how to calculate the base length of a triangular prism when you know the volume, depth, and height of the triangle forming the base. By using the formula for the volume of the prism, you can determine the area of the triangular base, and from there, find the base length.

Find the base length of this triangular prisme from it's volume and its height and depth

The volume of any prism is just the area of its base times the length of the straight sides. In this case the straight sides are its depth

We know the volume is 56 and the depth is 7

So the area of the base must be 8

The area of the base is the area of a triangle, so that's base times height over 2

So we can solve for base length, which is 4
