Linear Equatio

One Variable, Three Terms (Level 1)

This math topic focuses on solving linear equations with one variable that contain three terms. It is an introductory level part of a broader unit on basic algebra concepts. Students are given various problems where they must apply arithmetic and algebraic manipulation to isolate and find the value of the variable. Each question includes multiple-choice answers, challenging students to solve equations and verify the correct result amongst the given options.

Solve for the variable 'X' in this linear equation

We need to isolate all the numbers on one side, and all the 'X' terms on the other. If terms are added, we can subtract the same from both sides to cancel out.

So the 5 is removed from the left side, and we now have 32 on the right

We can do the same for variables. Let's subtract 2 'X' from both sides.

Now we have all the variables on the left and all the numbers on the right

When we want to remove a multiplication, we can divide both sides by the same number, so let's divide both sides by 4

X is equal to 8
