Volume of a Triangular Prism (Non-Right) - Calculate Triangle Side from Volume and Sides

Level 1

This math topic covers the calculation of missing side lengths in non-right triangular prisms given their volume and other side dimensions. It is part of a larger unit on the introductory concepts of geometry related to the volume logic of 3D shapes. Each problem involves a visual representation of a triangular prism and requires determining the length of an unspecified side by analyzing the provided information on volumes and dimensions.

Find the base length of this triangular prisme from it's volume and its height and depth

The volume of any prism is just the area of its base times the length of the straight sides. In this case the straight sides are its depth

We know the volume is 56 and the depth is 7

So the area of the base must be 8

The area of the base is the area of a triangle, so that's base times height over 2

So we can solve for base length, which is 4
